Day 30: Your favorite song at this time last year

After a bit of digging around, I was listening to The Shape of Punk to Come by Refused this time last year, at the recommendation of Banquet Record’s Jon Tolley. He told me to buy it, with the reason that New Noise was named after the Refused track. He then got all embarrassed and apologised if I didn’t like it… turns out, I did, very much!

It’s punk dear, but not as you know it.

Day 27: A song that you wish you could play

THIS RIFF

NOFX – Seeing Double at the Triple Rock

My favourite NOFX song. That riff is badass. I can’t play that fast (BAD punk rock guitar playing ameteur) :(

Day 26: A song that you can play on an instrument

Okay, I can play a good few, so will pick the first thing I ever taught myself:

Blink 182 – Dammit

That riff is the first thing I played on my little Fender Squire (which is lovingly called Skiba, and covered in glow in the dark stars – it looks frigging awesome) when I was 18. And I havent improved much since. Heh.

Day 25: A song that makes you laugh

I don’t know if the one I have in my mind will even be on You Tube seeing as it’s a bonus track on a Weezer CD… here goes..

Success!

Weezer – All My Friend’s are Insects

Bloody love it. The “Dra-gon FLYYYYYYYYYYYYY” bit near end makes me crack up each time, just because Weezer can make such simple brilliant songs which are rather clever, and then they come up with this. I know, I’m amused easily.

Day 24: A song that you want to play at your funeral

The Gaslight Anthem – The ’59 Sound

Day 23: A song that you want to play at your wedding

Now, I don’t think you can really decide properly until you’ve found your other half whom you’re going to marry, namely if it’s going to be that special song that you associate with him. Seeing as I am a singleton I can’t really associate a song with a metaphorical “him” right now (sadface).

Weezer – El Scorcho

But on some consideration I’d like this at my wedding, to confuse all the non-Weezer fans, and it’s sentimental :)

Day 22 – A song that you listen to when you’re sad

Our Lady Peace – Are You Sad?

I don’t tend to listen to sad music on purpose when I am feeling down, as I’d rather get out of whatever sadness I am habouring – nor do I tend to listen to anything overly energetic/happy either. However, this song is pretty and WILL make me feel temporarily sad if it comes on.

Day 21: A song that you listen to when you’re happy

Sugarcult – Bouncing off the Walls

Wheee.

I once persuaded my parents to spend some of our holiday time in New York queuing up to watch an acoustic performance by the band in Times Square Virgin Megastore. Somehow, my parents got into the press pit, next to the stage and so me and my sister followed. No one stopped us, we avoided being squashed in a crowd, and had a brilliant view, stood next to 1 or 2 photographers. Hehe.

Day 20: A song that you listen to when you’re angry

Lets go for an obvious choice here:

Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff

I can’t really say I listen to this much anymore, in an angsty teen way (mostly because I’ve surprisngly grown up) but when I saw them play it live at Reading last year, man it was good.

Day 19: A song from your favorite album

Saves the Day – Freakish

Saves the Day – Stay What You Are is one of my all time favourite albums. I was awfully disappointed with their follow up (In Revierie) because it was SHIT. However their offerings after it were better. So if you’re going to looking into their discography, miss out In Revierie. I warned you.

Plus, this video is really cute.
